Approach
We help each student to explore and develop key personal characteristics that will enable them to thrive and succeed in the next step of their educational journey and beyond.
DEVELOPING THE WHOLE STUDENT
In the U.S. the admissions process is holistic — schools are interested in the whole student and their life experiences, not just their academic standing and test scores.
What’s important is to discover what’s important to the student. When we can help the student better understand themselves, they have a better chance of success in applying to schools.
Our goal is that each student with whom we work will be motivated to develop their skills and passions, identify appropriate life-stage aspirations, and prepare for entry into a school or program where they can not only achieve academically but also flourish and excel.
THE CROCS METHOD
We start with CROCS — not the rubber shoes, although that’s an easy way to remember the acronym.
At J&C, CROCS refers to a list of personal traits that we have identified as essential for personal development and success in and outside of the classroom. These characteristics, not surprisingly, are also valued by schools:
Curiosity, where learning begins and from which knowledge builds.
Resilience, the ability to persevere and grow in the face of adversity.
Optimism, an attitude of hopefulness and positivity that inspires others.
Compassion, a quality that fosters connection and strong relationships.
Self-discipline, a necessity in staying focused and motivated.
Based on our extensive experience in education services, the advisors of J&C Education Advisory Group believe that schools evaluate these kinds of personal characteristics as much as any specific category of effort or skill. They’re essential in preparing for entry to a school and for a successful academic career.
